Letter from Dr. Miller

Dear Southampton Middle School Community,

Hello.  I am Helen Miller, the new Principal of Southampton Middle School.  I have been an educator for 26 years and I am a product of Harford County Public Schools having attended Hickory Elementary School, Southampton Middle School, and C. Milton Wright High School.  I am excited to collaborate with you as we support our children’s academic, social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

I attended Harford Community College and Towson University.  While studying at Towson University to become a teacher, I felt an intense need to serve my country.  I was a junior in college and one day had the courage to stop at the Bel Air Armory to sign up with the Army National Guard.  My last few years of college was mixed with Army Basic Training, Military Intelligence School, and student teaching.

After graduation I married, moved, and began teaching at Killeen High School in Killeen, TX.  While teaching I earned a M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Tarleton State University.  Once we started a family it was time to move back to Harford County.  I became a teacher at Aberdeen High School and soon after served as an administrator at several county middle and high schools.  I earned an Ed.D. in Innovation and Leadership from Wilmington University and I currently reside within the Southampton Middle School community with my husband and two children.

I quite simply want the best for our school community.  I want the best for you, our children, and our staff.  I strongly believe in collaboration with families to solve problems and to generate new ideas.  I strongly believe in the transformational power of learning and want every child to experience how education can change their lives.  I strongly believe in professionally growing every member of the school staff so they can reach their highest potential.

We will continue the school motto of Empower, Grow, and Accept.  It will remain the backbone of everything we do at Southampton.  We will be scheduling several events this summer so you can learn more about the Administration Team and our vision.  Please look for communication to be sent soon.
